Preparing for a digital Christmas
Published On:Monday, November 2, 2020
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic it is likely that this Christmas will be digital and many presents will be purchased online.
This Office regularly receives complaints from members of the public about targeted advertising that they have received.
A typical complaint is that the individual has searched for a particular product online and now receives messages when using social media and in some instances emails advertising similar products.
Individuals want to know who is processing their personal data and what else may happen to their data. They also want to know how to stop such processing in the future.
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office has created a number of resources which explain how your personal data may have been used, and what you can do to control it. The resources include a number of factsheets which explain how you can view and change your advertising settings on a range of social media platforms.
